Decluttering your mind brings peace, focus, balance & clarity to your life
In this day and age, it is very difficult to clear your mind and only focus on one thing at a time. We have all learnt, over the past 4 decades, to multitask with the constant interruption of mobile phones and the progressive development of social media. Of course, this generation does not know any different, and the way we communicate, the ability to hold an engaging conversation or exchange news has become an impersonal and incessant stream of texting and emails pinging into our inbox ad nauseum. No wonder so many people, of all ages, are struggling to focus and suffer with various forms of anxiety.

We are multi-dimensional beings, with a mind - the subtle body, physical body and soul - the causal body. Our mind, discriminates facts; it is our intellect which processes the 60-80 thousand of daily thoughts, and most of those, are from the previous day. Our ego, identifies with the position and possessions we hold in life. It is all about control. It is no wonder we often do not know whether we are coming or going. It just takes one of those thoughts, to trigger our primitive response of fight, flight or freeze. And then, our fear and obsession with the future sets in and the cycle is never ending. But what happened to the 'now'? Living in the present. What is past, can not be undone - 'easily said', I hear you say. Well, yes. But, if we could just learn from it, to direct us in the present; the past is less likely to consume our very being, to the point it affects us at a cellular level or controls our very existence, which ultimately becomes soul destroying.

We need to reclaim our minds, to nuture our bodies and enable our souls to continue on their journey. Through and enjoy the positive benefits to our health, happiness, work, and relationships. And, the great thing is that Mindfulness and Meditation are scientifically proven, to change the body on a cellular level, lowering blood pressure, decreasing inflammation and increasing telomeres by 40% protecting our DNA from cytokine attacks. Too much science? Basically, daily practice helps to protect us from getting sick and to self-regulate through our innate ability to heal.

Mindfulness is when the mind is fully attentive to the current event, to what you are doing in the space you are occupying, without reacting to and becoming overwhelmed by internal or external stimuli or distractions. In a nutshell, being present, focused, and grounded.

Mindfulness helps us put some space between ourselves and our reactions, breaking down our conditioned responses. Think about how you ordinarily respond to a challenging situation. Do you automatically go into a fight, flight, or freeze mode, based on uncertainty or past experiences? We can become more mindful of every situation through meditation, and focusing on the senses and breathing. With practice, mindfulness can be applied to every activity, including eating, relaxing, walking, and working/studying.

Meditation begins and ends in the body and can be performed seated or standing. Lying down is also possible but not recommended, as it often leads to falling asleep. Aside from being tired, it may also indicate that you are not yet ready to be present.

Meditation involves paying attention to where we are and what’s going on, which starts with being aware of our body and focusing on our breath. That very act, of regulating your breath can be calming, since our body has internal rhythms to help it relax, if we give it a chance.

You are a living story - consciously write the next chapter with daily practice of Mindfulness and Meditation. Invest in yourself, and your growth, and bring well-being to your mind, body, and soul.
