Reiki is the name given to a system of natural healing which evolved in Japan from the experience and dedication of Dr. Mikao Usui (d. 1926). Reiki means universal life energy that is the energy that is all around us. It is derived from two Japanese words 'rei' meaning "Universal life giving" and 'ki' meaning "Universal life energy".
Reiki works on physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels to balance the body and accelerate its own ability to heal, restoring balance in one's life. The practitioner is a channel which the energy is drawn through by the need or imbalance in the recipient.
Reiki is completely natural and safe and supports and enhances orthodox medicine and other complementary therapies. It is an ideal treatment for the elderly, the very young and during pregnancy because of its gentle nature. There is no belief system attached to Reiki so anyone can receive a Reiki treatment, the only prerequisite is the desire to be healed.
